The Adoption Journey

6:58 PM
Wow, what an incredible journey we've had so far, and a long one at that.  We're nearing the end, but we still have a few hurdles to overcome.  We've had many people ask us how the process is going, so I thought I would break my unintentional blogging silence and update everyone.

We have completed the necessary African paperwork and have moved on now to the American side of things.  We are awaiting a document that will give us approval to immigrate our little girl here.  It can take anywhere from 4-12 weeks to receive.  It's been 4 and I'm getting impatient.  My husband says it's like a 12 hour drive: the last two hours are the worst.  To help pass the time, I obsessively check the mail hoping that the document has arrived.  I'm really hoping that we are closer to the 4 week mark than the 12!

After we receive the immigration approval, we will be set up for an appointment with the US Embassy in Africa.  After the appointment, they will review the case and then issue a Visa!  That is the last hurdle to get our little girl home.  These steps in the process should take 2-4 months.  My hope is that we have her home by Easter.  It's a very realistic goal, but it could be even sooner!

We are also getting close to meeting our financial need of $35,000.  The final cost will be that of plane tickets, so it's important to hit our goal.  We're still a few thousand off, but confident that the Lord will provide.  It's amazing how much people have given already.  We have loved seeing how God's family has so sacrificially given, and sometimes surprised us with the amount. (We're also a little surprised at the amount we've been able to come up with.  It's amazing what you can live without.)

We appreciate your prayers during this time.  Specifically for these things:

1.  The remaining funds needed, (and that the plane tickets will be cheap.  That could add another several thousand dollars to our overall total.)

2.  Patience.  (This is a long process.)

3.  Remaining paperwork to be processed quickly and effectively.

4.  Our little girl.  Pray that God would keep her healthy and safe, and prepare her heart for a family.

We appreciate your continued support!  Thank you.
